When I went to visit my German grandparents, I always had my camera with me. The pictures I collected over the years show the scars the war left on them and how the grandparents dealt with them. First as a couple and then my grandmother alone.

A personal film is to be made from the footage, which is focused less on the search for unquestionable identity and more on the common experience of openness before death. 'How do we let go of what has shaped us?
