Der Weiss Code

"I am actually made up of this substance: explore, perform and improve."

Heinrich Weiss' enthusiasm for mechanics made him a creative inventor. In 1955, for example, he invented a barcode system for his print shop in Kleinbasel that enabled him to sort medicine boxes faster and more precisely. He was the first in the world to do so. It was not until 1972 that the barcode as we know it today was introduced. Heinrich Weiss collected clocks and mechanical music boxes and admired the diversity of their technical solutions. In 1979, he refrained from continuing to participate in the race of technology with his printing company and concentrated on his collection, which is now open to the public in the Museum of Music Automatons in Seewen.
