Cameras not Cannons
The collapse of Yugoslavia showed with cruel clarity the damage that nationalist-ethnic thinking can do after years of federalist coexistence. The population of the former constituent republic of Macedonia opted for independence in 1991.
The young republic gave itself a democratic constitution and is looking for a way to reconcile the interests of all its ethnic groups - Macedonians, Albanians, Turks, Roma, Aromanians and Serbs. To give everyone the feeling of having a mouthpiece in this country, Macedonian state television has given the minorities airtime. As a UN peacekeeping project, they were further expanded with the support of Switzerland and Denmark. Can minority television make a contribution to peace?
In our film, we accompany journalists from the five minority programmes into their worlds. We were interested in what they report, how they do it and with what motivation. 80'20 min.
