Propaganda Fide

The Sacred Mount of Varallo in Valsesia (province of Vercelli, northern Italy) is a Renaissance multimedia adventure trail where the story of Christ's life and passion can be traced in time, space and visually. Visitors are guided with didactic precision, which even includes distractions and breaks. The Holy Mountain amazes as a memory model. Its purpose at the time of the Counter-Reformation was the propagation of the faith (Propaganda Fide). In Romagnano, not far from Varallo, the same scenes are performed every two years in sync with the events of 2000 years ago in a Sacra Rappresentazione on stages throughout the town. The 270-year-old tradition is evolving: bigger, more effective, not without the influence of today's TV shows.
