TRUDI GERSTER – The Fairytale Queen

Trudi Gerster has been producing recordings for 70 years, getting into children's rooms with her voice and carrying mothers and fathers back to former times.
The film shows the charismatic storyteller with all her facets and contradictions as an unconventional personality who unwaveringly and determinedly stood up for her art throughout her life. We experience an eventful biography from actress to storytelling fairy, from a single mother to a politically committed Basel councillor, who was able to retain her position as a fairy tale queen throughout the years.

Press commentaries:
"... Much success was not always easy to bear for Trudi Gerster's environment, and it is one of the strengths of the film that in the conversation with Gerster's long since grown-up children, the ornery, opinionated and egotistical side of the petite lady also shines through."

  • Dominik Heitz, Basler Zeitung, 4 September 2009

"...TRUDI GERSTER - The Fairy Tale Queen could have easily lasted a few minutes longer, because the lady portrayed is interesting, totally there mentally and still enormously likeable. It's nice that Trudi Gerster has received a small tribute with this short documentary."

  • Outnow.ch, 7 September 2009 Muri

"... The conversations with the members of the Gerster/Jenny clan round off the picture that Switzerland has so far been able to form of its 'fairytale queen'. Considering Trudi Gerster's advanced age, it is not a moment too soon for this."

  • Tages Anzeiger, online, Serge Kuhn, 1 September 2009

"... The fact that this film shows the star Trudi Gerster with all her facets and contradictions makes it credible and touching."

  • Programme Newspaper, Christopher Zimmer, September 2009
