Space of Fragments

What is the big picture today? What can the fragment still be as a pictorial and spatial part in relation to the big picture in a highly digitalised environment? And how does it relate to the three-dimensional pictorial space?

For Sabine Hertig, collage is no longer just a material artefact. For Hertig, collage is a form of thought for reflective seeing in the sense of "discovering action". Her works use different media to create virtuoso constellations of images that are unique.

For the artist, thinking in terms of collage means placing the individual parts and the whole in relation to each other.
But it also means thinking about the big picture from the perspective of one part.

The long-term observation shows the artist oscillating between media such as pencil and watercolour drawing, painting and collage in the studio. For Hertig, pictures are not something self-contained, but rather sections of a larger complex of reality. Hertig allows viewers to participate in this reflection within her artistic process. The film helps to highlight or emphasise certain creative aspects of the artistic process and contributes to the overall presentation of her work on the border between drawing, painting and collage. It is thinking with pictures about pictures!
